Taking Care of Business:

Co-op Commercial Customers

As a business, you know that service and reliability are vital to customer relations. Nothing can replace the trust between a business and its customers. Once damaged, nothing can repair it.

Smart Choice Co-ops place the highest value on our commercial accounts. We know that our business depends on your business, and we’re committed to the three essentials of solid business-to-business relations: prompt, dependable service, personal attention and economical, stable rates.

Service now, not later

When you need maintenance or repair work, you can count on your cooperative service crews to do the job not just right – but right away.
As a rural enterprise, we’re used to problems that don’t come with easy-to-locate street addresses or convenient hours. We’re on call 24/7, ready to roll in any weather. We know the back roads and the shortcuts, we know how to find the trouble and, most importantly, we know what to do about it.

Personal attention

Our customers are our neighbors. When you call your electric cooperative, chances are you’re speaking to the same people you spoke with last time you called, whether that was last month or last year.
Co-ops are local enterprises operated by local people. That means we’re familiar with your account and its history. Whether you’re calling about billing, installation, maintenance or anything else, you’ll get attention from someone with experience and knowledge, someone you know and who knows you – not a temp in a cubicle in a "service center" in another state.

Affordable, stable rates

For over sixty years, Texas electric co-ops have provided reliable energy at affordable rates, in fact some of the lowest rates in the state. We’re able to do this because we’re owned by our customers, not investors. Like any business, we have to charge enough to pay salaries, keep operations running and upgrade technology. After these needs are met, any "profit" is returned to members in the form of capital credits.
We work to ensure that all our customers pay fair, equitable rates based on their class, their load and the technology required to serve them. Like everyone in the energy industry, our rates reflect the fluctuations of energy costs. In times of high demand, private companies (in any industry) may realize windfall profits. Co-ops do not. Working on behalf of our members, cooperatives are not for profit; instead we work to insulate our customers from market pressures.

The co-op advantage

With deregulation, Texas is entering a period of unpredictable energy prices. While no one hopes rates here will skyrocket as they have in California, the fact is our new energy environment will inevitably reflect the volatility of a free market.
The same law that deregulated the state’s electric industry also allowed its electric co-ops the option to remain unregulated. Unlike most other power distributors, co-ops can choose to deregulate or to "wait and see."
Smart Choice Co-ops intend to wait. Before we opt for deregulation, we want to be sure deregulation will benefit our members. In times of uncertainty, the wisest course is prudence.

Our commitment to you

Whatever your customer class—residential, commercial or any other—your satisfaction is vital to our success. Your Smart Choice cooperative intends to make sure our commercial customers—all our customers—receive prompt maintenance and repair, personal attention and affordable rates. That’s because when it comes to service, we just have one class of customer. First-class.
